The commission is offered annually as part of MUSIC CURRENT, with the newly commissioned work being prepared for the following year’s festival. Previous commissioned composers included: Patricia Martinez (Argentina), Anna Murray (Ireland), Seán O'Dálaigh (Ireland), Silvia Rosani (Italy), and Panayiotis Kokoras (Greece). The selection panel was impressed by Alessandro's clear and detailed proposal and his concentration on sound quality in his proposal and his work. Alessandro says,

"I am delighted to receive the Music Current Commission award 2022-23. It is an honour and a wonderful opportunity for me to expand my research on the space of the resonance in stringed instruments working closely with pianist Izumi Kimura and guitarist Shane Latimer. In my new work I intend to bring these two important solo instruments together by identifying possible points of contact and exchanging tools and performance techniques, while exploring scordatura and hidden sounds with the aim of creating a permanent merging of layers, functions and harmonic interpolations. The experience of the instrumentalists in both classical music interpretation and free jazz improvisation will be crucial in the development of the piece, and I am grateful to Music Current for capturing this hybrid aspect, which complements the writing and renews the opportunities for experimentation."
